Stress & Rescue

SSI Diver Stress & Rescue: Build Confidence & Capability The SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course is widely considered one of the most rewarding and empowering programs you can take. It shifts your focus from yourself to the safety of others, teaching you how to recognize signs of stress, prevent accidents before they happen, and respond effectively to real-life emergencies. Whether you dive for fun or plan to go professional, this course makes you a better buddy and a much more confident diver. How it Works eLearning at Home: Before the practical sessions begin, you’ll complete the interactive SSI digital training. This covers the psychology of stress, how to identify problems in other divers, and the theory behind rescue techniques. Pool Sessions: We start in the controlled environment of the BCP Dolphin Leisure Centre. Here, you’ll master rescue skills—from assisting a panicked diver to performing underwater rescues—until they become second nature. Open Water Scenarios: You’ll put everything into practice during a full day at Vobster Quay. You will manage realistic rescue scenarios, including search patterns and bringing an unresponsive diver to the surface, in a true-to-life setting. Your Experience Timeline The course is delivered over three sessions to ensure you have plenty of time to build and refine your skills: Session 1 & 2: Pool Skills (2 Evenings, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM): Focused on skill development, problem-solving, and equipment management in the pool. Great Dorset (Blue Oceans) Beach Clean & Nurdle Hunt - Holes Bay

Join us this April Bank Holiday for a litter pick in one of Poole's most needed locations - Holes Bay. As there are also what appears to be thousands of Nurdles along the shore, we'll also designate a team to specifically pick out some nurdles so we can record these to The Great Nurdle Hunt. This SSSI site at the back of Poole Harbour, next to Upton Country Park, is a sensitive intertidal environment made up of saltmarsh, mudflats and rich feeding grounds for wetland birds. It forms part of a conservation partnership between Poole Harbour Commissioners, Dorset Wildlife Trust and BCP Council, aiming to protect biodiversity while enabling people to connect with nature. The Nature Park is home to a variety of wildlife that feed off this area (and it's FULL of litter!!). The tides bring in the water, which carries litter from the local area, and essentially traps it in the corner. This area is unloved and needs alot of TLC. The litter picking site runs along the Holes Bay Path, beside the A350, and is reachable only on foot, via a tarmacked well kept hard-standing pathway. Terrain at the litter pick site can be uneven, marshy, and boggy. Work must be carried out cautiously and respectfully, ensuring no disturbance to wildlife or damage to the protected habitat. Collections will be conducted when the tide is out to reduce risks associated with soft mud, tidal movement, and water hazards. The site is only accessible via foot (a 10-15 minute walk from the roadside). Please park along Willis Road and meet on the corner of Willis Road/Broadstone Way. From there, we will cross the road and walk along the path to our designated site. Meet at 10am, we'll wait for 10 mins before leaving. What3Words - organs.warm.fall Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and hard-soled, waterproof footwear. The ground can be marshy and uneven, so dress for mud, weather changes, and comfort.
