Sailing Bubbles was born in 2020 from Elisa and Lucio’s idea of joining SCUBA diving and sailing in Sicily. It’s a concept similar to a diving cruise or liveaboard, yet more intimate. During a week, the sailboat hosts max. 6 guests and sails, pushed by the wind, between a diving destination and the next. The guests live onboard, spending the nights moored in beautiful bays, and dive using the services of trusted local diving centers who provide their logistics to reach the best dive sites.
The project is the result of our respective and different past experiences. Lucio was a PhD, university professor and oceanography researcher in France before he decided to try and make a living out of his passion for sailing and diving. Elisa had been an au pair and farm worker in Australia who traveled much as a backpacker and had then decided to become a scuba diving instructor. As lovers of the Mediterranean Sea, both above and under the water, we felt the urge to share our passion and knowledge through an original concept, creating an authentic experience of communion with the ocean. We’re skippers, cooks, and as SCUBA and Freediving instructors we offer our guests the SSI courses - all done onboard with due care and time . Needless to say, we personally guide all the dives.
Our cruises take place from late May to early October and all last 7 days. Depending on the date, we offer three different itineraries around Sicily, trying to focus on Marine Protected Areas.
It is an emerged rock distant 400mt from the integral Marine Reserve. It offers almost six different tours depending on the divers experience . This is one of the most beautiful area of the Mediterranean Sea for its richness of fish and corals.
About a mile and a half in a westerly direction from the port of Ustica, is Punta dell’Arpa, characterized on the surface by the presence of its famous “scoglio del cornutone“. Underwater, two large rocks rise from a sandy bottom of 40 m, whose walls are colonized by large branches of red gorgonians.
One mile southwest of Ustica harbor is Punta Galera: a lava flow bisects a bay. Here you can follow several dive routes that allow you to follow profiles suitable for divers of any experience. It is also one of the sites where courses are held.
Peculiar seascape due to the volcanic nature of the rocks. Namely, pumex makes the sediment whitish and bright, definitely uncommon to see. A flat part of sand and rocks drops-off into sloping rocks that seem endless...
About six miles in a westerly direction from the port of Ustica, about 350 meters from the lighthouse of Punta Spalmatore, between 9 and 12 meters deep are the three pinnacles of what is commonly called the “shoal of Africa “
Two miles South West Of the Ustica’s harbour, there is this dive site that raises from a sandy bottom at 50m/150 ft goes up to his top at 26m/78 ft. It’s surely one of the top dive spots of the island with lots of corals and fishes.
A few minutes from the port, in a south-south-west direction, there is a lava wall that reaches a depth of 40 meters from the surface. Characterized by the presence of a canyon: the famous “Spaccazza di San Paolo“ which creeps into the mountain for several metres.
Fifteen minutes by boat from the port of Ustica is this incredible shoal which, from a depth of 50m, goes up to a depth of 3 meters at the top. The formation makes it accessible to both beginners and experienced divers.
