The SeaUrchin Diving Center was founded in 2006 by Katharina Dohmann and is among the most experienced Diving Schools in Mauritius. "Under German management", our professional Diving Team has lots of empathy toward the need of our customers. Raising the awareness for the importance of the underwater world and its fragility has always been one of our main concerns. Diving is not only a sport but it’s also an essential tool for the study of this world from which we can learn a lot. We believe that we have to realise the impact of mankind on this fragile environment and have to work together for its preservation. We are the only Diving School in Mauritius that offers three different diving formations with SSI, PADI and CMAS courses. The courses are taught in English, French and German. Thus we guarantee a theoretical and practical training accessible to everyone. The SeaUrchin Diving Center is the only Diving School in Mauritius who has an SSI Instructor Trainer which is performed under the guidance of Katharina. She is authorised to form and train any diver to a professional level.
The diving school is open daily as from 8:00 to 16:00, except on Sundays. Our dives take place at 9.00 and at 11.30; divers are requested to meet in the Diving Centre ½ hour before the dive. We offer a free transport service for people residing in the vicinity of Flic en Flac and Wolmar, if needed. First step in the Diving Center is the Check In; providing us with your license and your Logbook, you have to fill-in some paperwork before your equipment is handed out. Once we are done in the Diving Center we take a little walk to the Diving Boat, while the tanks will be delivered there with our pick-up truck. The boat of the diving school is located either in the lagoon behind the diving school or at the port of Flic en Flac. The location varies in relation to the tides and the season. The romantic harbour of Flic en Flac on the west coast of Mauritius is used by fishermen as well as a fish landing station. When on the boat, every diver gets a scuba tank - we usually dive with 10, 12 and 15L steel cylinders. The equipment itself has to be mounted by the diver. Of course, we will offer you a helping hand if needed. While the boat brings us to the diving site situated within 5 to 15 min distance, your instructor will brief you with the necessary information whether in English, German or French. We enter the water with a role-back-entry. Each dive in Mauritius is a guided dive, fallowing the laws and regulations of Mauritius and the guides take full responsibility of their group. On each dive a 3 minute safety stop has to be completed. We get back into the boat via a ladder. If you like, you can pass your equipment to the skipper before getting back into the boat. On the boat every diver is responsible for the disassembly of the rental equipment as well as the care of their regulator. Back in the Diving School, the tools have to be returned and rinsed. We have a separate basin for the regulator. Between the dives session we provide beverages as coffee, tea and water at the diving school. There, you can sit together for a cosy chats. We will take our time to talk about the previous dive and fill in the logbook. We emphasise having a cosy and relaxed atmosphere at the venue. We are looking forward to meet you, and will be delighted to answer any query you might have. In both the diving school as well as on the boat, we have appropriate emergency equipment available (oxygen, water, aspirin and First Aid Kit). Each team member is trained in First Aid or has a license as First Aid Instructor (PADI EFR Instructor, SSI React Right Instructor or CMAS Moniteur de Secourisme). .... Welcome to SeaUrchin we are looking forward to dive with you.
he SeaUrchin Diving Center is a Diving School for the whole family. We know through our experience that diving is an excellent sport for families or couples, because diving is a collaborative experience without competitive thoughts. We bring children closer to the beauty of diving and the underwater world with specific courses, tailored to fit their needs. The kids will have the opportunity to explore the underwater world in a playful way while staying in a very shallow depth due to safety and security reasons. Katharina is enthusiastic about encouraging and guiding women and children who are interested in diving. Being the only diving school owned and managed by a woman on the whole Island of Mauritius. The SeaUrchin Diving School has the highest proportion of female employees in Mauritius when it comes to Diving Schools. "Thereby we want to demonstrate that the diving industry should no longer be dominated by men and that women can do the job as good and even better". During the years of our professional experience, we’ve been figuring out that women often have more difficulties to make the first step when it comes to diving. That is often related to their state of mind for example having fear of the unknown, an uncertainty or lack of confidence in themselves or in the ability and skills of the Instructor. As holder of this knowledge, we try to disengage each diver from any pressure or constraints while caring for individual needs.

Here we mostly dive with children or do exercises on the sandy bottom with our beginner courses, as the dive is relatively shallow. We follow the reef after the entrance.
