Whether you like to see large fauna like rays, or hunt for macro life along the top reef, this easily navigable site is great for beginner divers. Richard B. (#3927276) Toffee Canyons (★4.5) Toffee Canyons is a great dive site just off Ambergris Caye. This is a fairly shallow site great for newer divers and snorkelers. Healthy reef system with lots of marine life to see. Mares Cayo Piedra Reef (★4.1) A popular dive site located in the Varadero area, just to the east of Havana. Old yachts, frigates, and planes have been deliberately sunk for recreational exploration. ChrisDiving, Dive Center Costa Rica, 50304 Playa Potrero Los Sombréros (★4.2) Sombrero is located 9.5km from playa Potrero or 6 miles. Its name is given to it by its shape resembling Mexican hats. There are several launching points all around the islands. The north side is rapidly deeper. Possibility of adapting the depth to the profiles of the divers all around the Island. Mares Hol Chan Marine Reserve (★4.5) Hol Chan is THE most popular dive area in Belize if not all of the Caribbean. This Marine Park sits just offshore from Ambergris Caye and boasts great visibility, beautiful coral formations, and TONS of marine life. Nerea M. (#4242665) Monkey Head (★4.2) Monkey head is a 15 minute boat ride from Playas del Coco. The dive site is part of a pinnacle that above water represents a monkey head, hence its name. Under water it is one of our favourite dive sites. Mares Cedral Wall (★4.5) The dive starts at around 13 meters (45 feet) and can reach depths up to 27 meters (90 feet). Divers can explore both the reef and the wall, with the latter featuring steep drops and rich coral gardens. SSI Service Center Southern Caribbean, Willemstad Cornelius Bay (★4.4) Very nice dive to the left of the Sea Aquarium. Can be hard to reach, however, with a bit of a climb. When entering from shore watch out for the shallow elkhorn coral formations. Mares, Predrag Vuckovic Cozumel (★4.5) Cozumel is one of the most popular dive destinations in the world and caters to divers with many diver-specific hotels year-round. Sitting just off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Cozumel boasts crystal clear, warm waters every day of the year and is home to a wide array of marine life. Scubapro River Taw Wreck, Saint Kitts (★4.4) Large freighter which was rated by Skin Diver Magazine as being in the top 20 in the Caribbean. The 144 foot ship sank in a storm in 1985, and then, four years later, the sunken ship was broken in half during Hurricane Hugo. Max depth around 14 m / 40 feet. Nearby, there’s a van and virtually intact bulldozer. Aqualung Tormentos (★4.5) Tormentos is a very popular second dive among Cozumel dive charters due to its shallow depth (averaging around 65 feet) and little to no current. The reef is very healthy and full of life; a photographer’s dream. Dive with Purpose Cozumel, 77675 Cozumel San Francisco Wall (★4.4) One of the most popular dives in Cozumel. You will find a steep dropoff, with potentially strong currents and frequent eagle ray sightings. The water is beautiful with 30m or better visibility. There are big barrel sponges all along the wall. This is a more advanced dive site. Aqualung Palancar Caves (★4.7) Palancar Caves is usually done as a multi-level drift dive, starting out fairly deep, usually hitting the recreational limit, to explore the deeper reef which is full of underwater tunnels and caves to swim through. Then you’ll make your way up the reef to the more shallow area to end your dive. OCEAN SPORTS, 00979 CAROLINA Escambrón (★3.8) This is a shallow shore dive, no more than 30 feet of depth with a sandy/rocky bottom, not a lot of coral but plenty of diver friendly marine life. Visibility ranges between 10 to 30 feet. The site is ideal for check -out dives, training, or a long pleasure dive if you don’t want to travel far from San Juan. Aqualung Stetson Bank, Flower Gardens (★4.4) Stetson Bank, located at the westernmost end of the sanctuary, is an oblong, mid-shelf bank made of uplifted siltstone and claystone. It was added to the sanctuary when Congress reauthorized the National Marine Sanctuaries Act in 1996. Mares, Janez Kranjc Breakers Reef (★4.5) This is a very popular dive site in Palm Beach County and consists of the remains of an old pier in front of the famous Breakers Hotel. Ranging in depth from just a few feet to 18 feet this site is great for divers and snorkelers alike. Scubapro, Stephen Frink Paradise Reef - Cozumel (★4.5) One of the most popular dive sites in Cozumel, Paradise Reef is actually three separate patch reefs running parallel to shore and is accessible by both shore and boat. This is one of the few good shore-accessible dive sites on the island. Max depth is 45 feet so this is a good site for beginners and snorkelers. OCEAN SPORTS, 00979 CAROLINA Crashboat Wall and Anchor (★4.4) This site is the remnant of an old pier. It is a shallow site, no more than 30-35 feet of depth with a sandy bottom. The wreckage on the bottom provides an artificial reef for a large variety of marine life. Visibility ranges between 10 feet (if it has been raining) to over 50 or 60 feet. Get Wet, 77760 Tulum Akumal Reef (★4.5) Protected Reef: Part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System—the second-largest reef in the world!Turtle Town: Akumal literally means “Place of the Turtles” in Mayan, and yep, you’re almost guaranteed to see green sea turtles cruising by.Shallow & Clear: Great visibility (up to 30m/100ft) Mares, Janez Kranjc Front Porche (31) (★4.1) Front Porche is a shore accessible dive site not well known for its outstanding reef, but for its scraps. The site is littered with steel pipes, wreck parts, and old machinery. This interesting mix of artificial reef attracts a wide array of marine life. SSI Service Center Southern Caribbean, Willemstad Tugboat (★4.2) Tugboat is Curacao’s most famous dive and snorkel spot due to its shallow depth. It was wrecked just off the shore of Caracasbaai and sits in only 15 feet of water. The tugboat is crawling with marine life and is now covered in sponges and coral growth. Scubaçao, Willemstad Marie Pampoen (★4.2) A calm, easy shore dive where you enter the water from a small harbor. 20-30 meters out from the harbor you will find an interesting artificial reef made from dumped cars, cranes, and more scraps. Sometimes large tarpon hang around here. Mares, Predrag Vuckovic Rock Pile (I) (★4.4) This site is, how could it be otherwise, located in front of a pile of stones on the island of Klein Bonaire. A nice diving site that is also very suitable for shallow diving. Channel Islands Scuba, 91360 Thousand Oaks Salt Pier (49) (★4.6) Active pier for loading salt from the salt works on the island of Bonaire. It can only be dived when no ship is moored, and no maintenance is being performed. PPK PLONGEE GUADELOUPE, 97125 BOUILLANTE Pointe Lézarde (★4.3) Last dive site of the National Park towards the south of Bouillante. This site consists of a rocky ridge, which will allow you to navigate between small rocky peaks and also down to 40 m. Most of the diving is done between 15 and 25 meters for beauty and visibility. Aqualung Cedar Pass (★4.5) Paseo del Cedral is a favorite Cozumel site among photographers due to the landscape that is covered in tight little coves and crevices for schools of fish to hide. This is a shallow dive with a max depth of 60 feet and great for beginning divers. Mares, Janez Kranjc Ginger Steps (★4.5) Named due to the step like formation of the site Ginger Steps is open to snorkelers and divers of all levels (ranging from 20 - 95 feet/3- 30m). Reef fish can be found schooling at every level, look for sharks at the drop off and lobsters hiding in the giant mushroom shaped coral structures. DIVE BVI, VG 1150 Spanish Town Chimney (★4.3) One of the most famous dives in the Dog Islands, the Chimney is a site with an unusual underwater structure. Long told to be a favorite site when Jacques Cousteau was diving here, you can easily see why this site is so popular! Bring a light to best appreciate the incredible colors! Mares, Janez Kranjc Little Bight (★4.2) A wide sand patch gradually slopes from the beach to well past 100 feet, creating a beautiful break in the reef that runs parallel to shore. Little Bight dive site is easy to reach and fun for all. OCEAN SPORTS, 00979 CAROLINA El Natural (★4.3) This is a natural reef site ranging in depth from 30 feet up to about 70-80 feet, in a gradual descent. The shoreline is rocky so you need to be careful where you step, but the dive is a nice pleasure dive. Visibility can range from 15 feet to over 50 or 60 feet. Looe Key Reef Resort and Dive Center, 33042 Ramrod Key Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary (★4.3) This spur and groove reef formation sitting 5 miles off of Big Pine Key, in the Florida Keys, is part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Due to its protected status reef life is very healthy and active here. Scubapro, Stephen Frink Airport Beach (★4.1) Off the coast of Ka’anapali, Airport Beach is located right next to the Westin Resort Villas and is great intro and beginner shore diving. An easy 2-minute walk from the parking lot makes getting to this site a breeze. The actual dive is along a gently sloping sandy bottom going from 8 to 25 feet deep. marco p. (#1764087) Sand Key Lighthouse (★4.1) Sand Key is a Sanctuary Preservation area that was originally its own island. Due to erosion and hurricanes, it’s been reduced to a very small patch of sand surrounded by a coral reef. The sand is an especially nice feature you don’t usually have at other Florida coral reefs. Great dive and snorkel spot. Mares Eastern Dry Rocks (★4.2) The Eastern Dry Rocks reef is a popular spot for diving and/or snorkeling. It is also quite close to multiple other reefs including Sand Key and Rock Key, so it is common for divers and snorkelers to see multiple reefs on one outing. Mares Coffins Patch (★4.2) Coffins Patch Sanctuary Preservation Area (SPA) is located approximately four miles off Key Colony Beach and offers some of the best snorkeling and diving in the Middle Keys. Maximum depth is about 25-30 feet/ 7 -9m. Mares L' Aquarium (★4.3) The name says it all ... an interesting, richly populated site, ideal for Open Water Diver courses! In the 7-15m zone. Schools of gorettes in every direction, stealthy king mackerel passing by, maniocs wandering in the open water, trumpet fish on the lookout for their meal... Mares, Predrag Vuckovic Boynton Beach Reef (★4.2) Boynton Beach Reef sits just south of West Palm Beach on the east coast of Florida and is a great diving location for new divers. The Atlantic ocean here is full of healthy corals, Caribbean fish species, and clear water. Dive with Purpose Cozumel, 77675 Cozumel San Clemente (★4.5) San Clemente is a shallow barrier reef located 500 m (0.3 mi) from the shore at the Sunscape/Secrets resort. The dive site is only 30-40 ft deep in at spans a llenght of over 900 m (0.6 mi). With mild currents, this is a perfect dive site for the last dive of the day or a night dive. Aqualung Little House on the Prairie (★4.3) Named for a navigational landmark onshore, Little House is a “Swiss cheese“ reef system characterized by an intricate network of interconnected tunnels and swim-throughs. The site features massive formations of Lobed and Mountainous Star Coral, particularly concentrated beneath the mooring. Travis M. (#4179003) SS Benwood (Wreck) (★4.4) The Benwood is a 360ft World War II wreck that sank April 9, 1942. She was carrying a cargo of phosphate rock and running blacked out to avoid German U-boats that were rumored to be in the area. The ship Robert C. Tuttle was also running blacked out and the two ships collided. BLUE DREAMS DIVING, 23000 BAYAHIBE Tortuga (★4.3) Located approximately 25 minutes by boat from the town of Bayahibe. This destination is known for its impressive corals and more abundant marine life, since it receives fewer divers. Mares, Janez Kranjc South Point shallow (★4.1) The dive site is on the south east of the Catalina Islands. It’s generally a shallow dive site except at the end it’s possible to dive down to around 25 meters but it’s generally nicer to stay shallow. Mares, Janez Kranjc La Paz (★4.5) Diving in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez, just outside of La Paz, Mexico is like swimming in an aquarium. Be ready for spectacular backdrops including swim-throughs, caves, caverns, deep pinnacles, and shallow, colorful reefs. Mares, Predrag Vuckovic Hanauma Bay (★4.4) Hanauma Bay is the most popular nature preserve in Oahu and a great place not only to stay the day at the beach but for snorkelers, beginning divers, and experienced divers alike. This bay is teeming with life and no boats are allowed so the waters are calm and protected. A.C.Divers, 77720 Playa del Carmen Pargo Cave (★4.5) A perfect coral reef for beginners, students of underwater photography and great place for the second shallower dive after a deep one. It has a sculpture, the “Virgen del Carmen“ of a conch shell, more than 2m high underwater to take a keepsake photo of the memory of diving in Playa Del Carmen. Scuba XOC Dive Center, 77675 Cozumel Palancar Horseshoe (★4.5) Horseshoe is one of the four awesome sections that make up the famous Palancar Reef in Cozumel, Mexico. This section of the reef is a horseshoe-shaped notch in the wall of Palancar full of beautiful and large coral heads and giant barrel sponges. DIVE BVI, VG 1150 Spanish Town RMS Rhone (Wreck) (★4.6) If you only have time for one dive trip in the BVI, it's the RMS Rhone. Numerous artifacts that were deposited on October 29, 1867 are still visible today. You can also see where the 1977 classic movie "The Deep" was filmed and swim through the bow section. Mares Coral Beach (★4.6) Another great dive site in the Varadero region of Cuba, just east of Havana. Lots of healthy coral growth. No current and easily accessable from shore this is a great dive for beginners and snorkelers. Mares Bay of Pigs (★4.4) The Bay of Pigs is full of easily accessible dive and snorkel sites. Centoe diving can be found just inland from the bay area. Tropical fish, coral, some wrecks, and cenotes (sinkholes) with haloclines between the top freshwater layer and the saltwater below can be seen. DIVEMEX, 77710 Playa del Carmen Jardines (★4.4) A great site for beginning divers and snorkelers as this reef is shallow, clear, and has little to no current. One of the most beautiful dives in Playa del Carmen, Jardines reef offers many small caves and shelters for schools of fish to hide. Lots of reef life here to see. ←123...9→
