Explore Sangat Island
Sangat Island, a secluded island with white sandy beaches and towering limestone cliffs, is the ideal location for divers who want to experience mind-blowing wreck dives and incredible reef diving. Located in the Calamian archipelago in the Mimaropa region of the Philippines, divers of all levels can delve into the 11 historically important World War II wrecks found in Coron Bay.
Sangat Island diving is possible from the single dive resort on the island, which offers a range of dive courses, or to experience more of the Mimaropa region hop on one of the visiting liveaboards. From Busuanga Island, divers can access the dive sites of Sangat Island by daily tips from dive centres.

Diving in Sangat Island
From the 11 Japanese WWII wrecks to flourishing coral reefs, there is an abundance of sites to keep even the most experienced diver enthralled. At the Sangat Coral Gardens, divers can experience several vertical drop-offs while caves and overhangs are carved into the limestone rocks, creating an interesting topography. Sangat Island diving offers unique sites such as the Cathedral Cave, allowing divers to witness stalactite and stalagmite formation in the single shaft of daylight that enters the cave.
Top Wildlife Sightings in Sangat Island
A variety of hard, soft and black corals are encrusted in Coron Bay’s many wrecks that provide the perfect environment for lionfish, shrimps, and clams to thrive. Circling around the long-lost wrecks are schools of pelagic fish, including groupers, tuna, barracuda and Spanish mackerel. Sea turtles can even be seen exploring the historic underwater scenery.
In 2004, the waters around Sangat Island were designated a marine protected area which has led to marine life at these reefs flourishing. Tropical fish of all colours flit around the reefs while lobster and seahorse cling to the vast range of coral species in the area.

Scuba diving in Sangat Island is possible all-year-round. The best time to dive around Sangat Island is from November through to May, when the weather and the visibility are at their best. From June to September the wet season can see some bad weather, yet this rarely stops diving operating in the area.
