Dive Activity

Diving in Sliema

The most local dive sites in Sliema are mostly shallow reef and sandy bottom dives which have depths ranging between 5 and 15 metres which are all accessed directly from shore. These dive sites; Fortizza Reef, Coral Garden and Qui Si Sana, are used for many dive courses for the more novice divers, for navigation courses, for underwater photographers and are also very popular for night dives. Fortizza Reef is the dive site out of the three which has the most versatile topography including some tunnels, overhangs and caverns for divers to explore. There are many marine species which inhabit the cracks and crevices in these rock formations, the reefs and in the stretches of Sea Grass which can be found here.

The best Months to Dive in Sliema

Malta definitely has four seasons, but luckily the summer is much longer than winter meaning more months of warm waters. From May to October, the water temperatures are above 20°C, with 27°C being the maximum in August and 13°C in January being the minimum. The air temperatures range between 10°C in winter and 30°C in the summer. The visibility here is fantastic, ranging between 20 and 40 metres!

The species which are spotted here are, luckily for divers, present throughout the year.
