The best Months to dive in Thaa Atoll

Thaa Atoll diving is available all year round due to consistently warm temperatures. Between the months of December to April, the dive conditions are optimal - the rain and winds are minimal and the sea is at its clearest. The only downside to these months is that prices will be at their highest.

The wet season between May and November brings short, sharp downpours and increased winds but many hours of sunshine daily nonetheless. The changing of the winds and tides brings in plankton which attracts filter feeders like manta rays and whale sharks.

The reef has the usual clouds of small colourful fish, as well as other reef regulars like napoleon wrasse, trevally, groupers, turtles and moray eels.

A variety of sharks can be found in abundance, both hunting on the reef and in the strong currents in the channels. The occasional hammerhead may even be sighted if you’re lucky! During the wetter months, manta rays can be seen at certain dive sites, a bucket list sight for many. Whale sharks, though rare, are seen sometimes.
