Actually an anglicised corruption of Bass Reef which is the original name for the shallower reef system outside Grand Anse bay named not only for the Variety of species but the number of larger ones able to be caught before overfishing. Ranges from 20 ft to an average of 70 ft / 21 mtrs.
Towards the St. Georges end tends to be more stony corals then the closer towards Quarantine point you come the more Softer corals and sponges you encounter.
