沖山礁は慶良間諸島の前島、黒島、渡嘉敷島に囲まれた中心部分に位置している。流れもあり平均水深も１５～２０ｍと深め。基本的にはドリフトダイビングとなるため中級者から上級者向けのポイント。ナンヨウマンタのクリーニングステーションでもあることから絶大な人気を誇るダイビングポイントである。他にもロウニンアジやメインの根では濃い魚影を楽しむことが出来る。
ナンヨウマンタ、ハナヒゲウツボ、ロウニンアジ、ウメイロモドキ、アカヒメジ、バラフエダイ、ムスジコショウダイ、ネムリブカ、アカククリナンヨウマンタがクリーニングに来る際は主にホンソメワケベラがクリーニングに携わる。
