Total number of species approx.: 55

Lobsters are fascinating crustaceans and a popular sighting among divers. There are many different species found throughout the world’s oceans, except in polar regions. As close relatives of crabs and shrimp, lobsters are identifiable by their segmented body covered by a hard carapace, distinct snout, beady eyes, and five pairs of legs. Many species also have one pair of large pinchers, which they use for defense and feeding, making them impressive to observe in their natural habitat.
