Explore the cold waters of Canada

Most visitors to Canada travel here to explore its vast wilderness. Mountains, glaciers, lakes, and forests are the most popular attractions among tourists. However, the long coast of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and its thousands of inland lakes make Canada a favorable dive destination, with incredible underwater encounters offering freshwater and saltwater diving. Diving in a dry suit is mandatory at most dive sites, as water temperatures are cold. However, Canada’s cold waters offer experiences you cannot have anywhere else, like large killer whales, playful seals, and ancient shipwrecks over 500 years old. Millers Beach Westhawk Lake (★3.8)

Millers Beach sits on the small lake of Westhawk, right outside of Winnipeg, Canada. It may be a small lake but is very popular for diving, especially scuba training. There is camping available and the rock topography in the lake is spectacular. Bring your drysuit or very thick wetsuit.

Silver Harbour (★4.6)

Located in the famous Thunder Bay of Lake Superior, Silver Harbour is a popular dive and recreational site. This is a conservation area that provides year round access to the lake. The diving is nice with great rock features.

Carriere Kahnawake (★4.2)

This is the only local dive site in the Montreal area that allows you to reach 100 feet deep. This freshwater quarry is open Tuesday evenings and during the day over the weekends. There is a $20 cash only access fee to be paid upon arrival.

Conestoga Wreck (★4.3)

The largely still intact Conestoga is a 252-ft wreck in Cardinal, Ontario and is an excellent dive for all level, and exceptional night dive site. Easy shore entry leads you to a 25 m-line to the wreck. It is a shallow dive (28 ft approx.) and drift-friendly. Great site to practice a camera.

Old Garden Beach (★4.1)

Sandy beach with a line of moderately sized boulders after a slight swim offshore. Max depth 45-50 feet. Parking is about 100 yards away from the entry.

Dolime/Glenchristie Quarry (★4.2)

This is the old Dolime quarry or also now known as the Glenchristie quarry and is located just outside of Toronto, Canada. The quarry sits at around 30 - 40 ft deep and the deeper section towards the back reaches just to about 90 ft. There is limited parking and this is a popular training site, so get there early!

Welland Scuba Park (★3.6)

This is an excellent dive site for beginners as well as for advanced training. Explore boats, cars, barges, and other assorted items, sunk & ready to be discovered! This site is apparently private land, although we have not been able to locate any owner. It has been closed for special events like FloatFest.

Centeen Memorial Dive Park (★4.2)

A popular dive site for all levels of divers, you can see the underwater sculpture placed here with six standing human figures looking up, surrounded at an 18-foot radius by benches at each cardinal point. Two sturgeons point north at 35 feet out, a tribute to a species that was once plentiful in the river.

Morrison’s Quarry (★4.2)

Morrison’s Quarry, located off of Highway 105 in Wakefield, Quebec, is one of the region’s most popular scuba training sites. It is also a very popular camp ground and home to concerts and festivals during the summer months.

Lac Morgan (★3.6)

From the wharf, you have a surface or underwater swim of about 400m in order to reach a cliff of about 30m deep. Bring a light as it gets dark quickly in this lake. Also, pay attention to where you are swimming and look ahead as there are lots of downed trees laying around in the lake.
