Ice diving in Lake Weissensee/Austria: In winter, Lake Weissensee offers the largest prepared and permanently frozen natural ice surface in Europe and is therefore predestined for ice diving, one of the most exciting and adventurous opportunities in diving. The ice regularly grows to a thickness of 40 cm and more. The water under the ice is crystal clear and offers incredible visibility of up to 30 meters, as the suspended particles sink due to the closed ice cover. The sun shining through the ice sheet refracts in the ice and conjures up fascinating light effects in the clear water. With a bit of luck, mirror ice awaits you and you can watch ice skaters and walkers through the ice cover.
