Take Your Diving to the Next Level
Ready to explore beyond the limits of recreational open water diving? The SSI Deep Diving Specialty prepares you to safely and confidently dive to depths between 18 and 40 meters (60–130 feet) through a combination of engaging classroom sessions and exciting open water dives.
During this course, you'll learn how to safely plan and conduct deep dives while gaining a better understanding of the unique challenges that come with greater depths. You'll master dive planning, gas management, dive computer usage, and air consumption calculations to maximize your bottom time while maintaining safe diving practices.
Upon successful completion, you'll earn your SSI Deep Diving Specialty certification, allowing you to explore incredible deep dive sites around the world. This specialty is also a prerequisite for several advanced SSI programs, making it the perfect next step in your continuing dive education.
Course Schedule
Your training includes three open water deep dives:
- One shore dive to practice deep diving skills and procedures.
- Two boat dives aboard the Beachhopper, where we'll typically dive to 80 feet or deeper (conditions permitting).
Beachhopper Boat Fee: $140 for the two-tank dive (paid separately).

- Planning and conducting deep dives safely
- Understanding the effects of increased pressure on the body
- Preventing and recognizing nitrogen narcosis
- Understanding decompression sickness and safe ascent procedures
- Advanced gas management and air consumption planning
- Proper use of dive computers for deep diving
- Equipment considerations, including redundant air sources such as pony bottles
- Emergency procedures specific to deep diving
