Diver Stress and Rescue

Become the diver everyone wants as their buddy

Ready for one of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding courses in recreational diving?

The SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course takes your diving beyond simply looking after yourself. You’ll learn how to recognise developing problems, respond confidently to diving emergencies and assist another diver when it matters most.

Expect an action-packed weekend involving realistic rescue scenarios, problem-solving challenges and plenty of hands-on practice. You’ll manage tired and panicked divers, practise underwater searches, respond to unresponsive divers and work through complete rescue situations from initial recognition through to recovery.

It will challenge you physically and mentally—but you’ll finish as a more capable, confident and safety-conscious diver.

What you’ll learn

Recognise stress before it becomes an emergency

Learn to identify physical and psychological stress in yourself and other divers, recognise warning signs and take early action before a minor problem develops into a serious incident.

Develop stronger self-rescue skills

A capable rescue diver must first be able to manage their own safety. You’ll strengthen your situational awareness, problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm when conditions become demanding.

Assist tired, distressed and panicked divers

Practise different approaches for assisting divers at the surface and underwater while protecting yourself and maintaining control of the situation.

Search for a missing diver

Plan and conduct effective underwater searches using appropriate search patterns, teamwork and communication.

Respond to an unresponsive diver

Learn how to approach, recover and assist an unresponsive diver, including surfacing techniques, in-water rescue breathing, equipment removal and safe exits from the water.

Manage realistic rescue scenarios

Bring everything together during challenging shore-based rescue scenarios. You’ll assess the situation, organise assistance, select the appropriate response and manage the rescue from beginning to end.

Why complete your course with Adreno?

Adreno’s course is designed to deliver practical, confidence-building training—not simply tick off certification requirements.

  • Realistic, hands-on training: Practise rescue skills through engaging scenarios that challenge you to assess situations and make decisions.
  • Three shore-based open-water sessions: More time is devoted to rescue training without the time pressure and additional cost associated with boat schedules.
  • All rental scuba equipment included: There are no unexpected equipment-hire charges if you don’t own a complete set of gear.
  • Pool training before open water: Build and practise each technique in a controlled environment before progressing to realistic open-water scenarios.
  • Experienced Adreno instructors: Learn from knowledgeable dive professionals focused on developing safe, capable and confident divers.
  • Online learning at your own pace: Complete the knowledge development when it suits you, then reinforce it during the in-store theory session.
  • Adreno training and retail support: Receive ongoing advice from one of Australia’s best-known dive retailers and training teams.

Enriched Air Nitrox Level 2 (40%)

Enriched Air Nitrox Level 2 (40%)

Become a NITROX DIVER with Adreno!Becoming a Nitrox diver opens up a world of opportunities for extending your bottom times, increasing safety margins, and minimizing surface intervals during your dive adventures. Here's what you can expect from the SSI Enriched Air Nitrox specialty program:Increased Bottom Times: By learning to dive with enriched air mixtures containing higher percentages of oxygen (up to 40%), you can extend your bottom times compared to traditional air diving. This allows you to explore underwater environments for longer periods, maximizing your dive experiences.Enhanced Safety Margins: Enriched Air Nitrox diving offers increased safety margins by reducing the risk of decompression sickness, particularly on repetitive dives or dives with shorter surface intervals. By optimizing gas mixtures, you can dive more safely and confidently, even when pushing the limits of recreational diving depths.Shortened Surface Intervals: With reduced nitrogen absorption during dives with enriched air Nitrox, you'll experience shorter surface intervals between dives. This means you can spend less time waiting on the surface and more time exploring the underwater world, making the most of your diving adventures.Skills and Knowledge Enhancement: The Enriched Air Nitrox specialty program not only teaches you how to safely plan and execute dives with Nitrox but also enhances your overall diving skills and knowledge. You'll learn about the principles of gas blending, oxygen exposure limits, and the benefits and considerations of diving with enriched air mixtures.Certification Options: Upon completion of the program, you'll earn an SSI Enriched Air Nitrox 32% or 40% certification, depending on the specific blend of Nitrox you trained with. This certification demonstrates your proficiency in diving with enriched air and allows you to enjoy the benefits of Nitrox diving at dive destinations worldwide.By participating in the SSI Enriched Air Nitrox specialty program, you'll unlock the advantages of diving with enriched air mixtures and enhance your diving capabilities. Whether you're a recreational diver looking to extend your bottom times or a technical diver interested in optimizing gas mixtures, Nitrox diving offers a safer and more efficient way to explore the underwater world. Don't miss the opportunity to become a certified Nitrox diver and take your diving adventures to new depths.InclusionsOnline learning (done in your own time at your pace)1 x Theory Night In Store (around 3 hours)SSI Digital Kit and SSI Digital Certification CardCourse structure (conditions dependent, subject to change)Your Online Learning must be completed before arriving to begin your first day of this courseEvening - Paperwork & Theory DiscussionImportant informationOpen Water Diver Certification requiredAll participants must complete a Medical Questionnaire prior to the course and seek clearance from a medical practitioner if necessaryParent or guardian consent required for participants under 18 yearsYour own transport for you and your equipment is required to and from course locationMinimum of 4 Students required per course, thus will guarantee the course will run.
