Tilapia are amongst the most popular freshwater fish in the world. Blue tilapia are members of the cichlid family (Cichlidae) and are native to Africa and the Middle East but are now a popular invasive species in the southern , especially in the state of Florida. Blue tilapia are a hardy fish, growing up to 2.7 kg (6 lbs) and 45 cm (18 inches) long.
