Touring the Baron Gautsch is best started at the stern, across the upper deck towards the bow. After viewing the outside of the ship, you will get a very pleasant feeling of staying in the wreck, while going to the upper deck where the steel skeleton is left.
One of the most beautiful dive sites islands of Rovinj. In the upper portion of the centre of the island there is the entrance to a small cave. (About 5 meters). A corridor leads into the central room of the cave, which is lit up by the sun through an opening. The dark parts of the cave are home to red starfish.
A short distance from the lighthouse of S. Giovanni (Sv. Ivan), off the coast of Rovinj, at a depth of 30-35 m is Maona, a small cargo vessel which, with its length of 40 m, offers a relatively simple dive for divers, in conditions of good visibility. Suitable for AOWD with a minimum of 40 dives.
The Italian minesweeper was built in 1913 and sunk in 1944. Until 1929 she bore the name „Pilade Bronzetti“. She was sunk by a British aircraft which spotted her during a reconnaissance flight. The torpedo broke the ship in half and therefore the bow and stern are about fifty yards apart.
A dive site for those who like small fish, it is also ideal for beginners. Excellent conditions for viewing marine life, which can already be found at a depth of 20 m without the need for deep diving.
Called “ISTRA“ for years, the true identity of this wreck was only recently established as the steamship “Hans Schmidt.“
This dive site consists of a huge stone field with smaller boulders, covered in yellow, brown, dark red, and black sponges. Small hangovers inside are covered by cold water corals. The opposite side still has a lot to discover and a mellow drift dive is possible.
Easy access from the beach in front of hotel swimming pool. At the beginning rock formations and later sandy bottom. Max depth of 6m with avg depth of 3.5m. Ideal for OWD courses or Try Dives.
