Explore Lake Schwerin

Lake Schwerin, nestled in northern Germany, offers a remarkable freshwater diving experience. Known as a glacier tongue lake, it is a haven for both beginner and experienced divers. The lake's clear waters reveal a fascinating array of submerged attractions, including several motor and sailboat wrecks resting at depths of 20 meters/66 feet. These wrecks provide a thrilling exploration opportunity for recreational divers seeking a unique underwater adventure.

The shallower parts of Schweriner See, ranging from five to eight meters/16 to 26 feet, are adorned with car and boat wrecks. These have been intentionally sunk to create intriguing dive targets perfect for beginners. Adding a touch of whimsy, divers may also encounter quirky installations like a telephone booth, benches, and even an artificial shark. The lake buzzes with life, housing large eels, pikes, and schools of roach and perch, making every dive an encounter with nature's splendor. Scuba Skills Update

    Scuba Skills Update

Skill Update Program for Certified Divers: Putting your safety first It's a simple but undeniable fact: in an emergency, you can only master what you practice and use regularly. For divers, this can become a serious problem, as many skills learned in the Open Water Diver (OWD) or Stress and Rescue (S&R) course are often not practiced after completing these courses. Ask yourself the following question: When was the last time you practiced an emergency ascent? Your answer is most likely: on the OWD or S&R course. We want to offer an update/refresher before the start of the new summer season, which is aimed at experienced divers to refresh various essential skills. Our program includes: 1. basic skills review: We will review all relevant skills from the OWD and S&R course to ensure that you have mastered the basic diving techniques and are able to operate safely underwater. For example: all emergency ascents, rescuing unconscious divers, diving without a mask or changing masks... 2. additional skills according to DAN statistics: The DAN statistics list certain factors and diving skills that are consistently involved in injuries and fatalities. We have integrated the most common factors as additional skills to ensure that you can dive safely underwater. Prerequisites for participation: You should have successfully completed the OWD and S&R course in order to participate in our skill update program. If you have not yet completed the S&R course but would still like to refresh your skills, please do not hesitate to contact us. If the demand is high enough, we will set up a separate course. Your safety and confidence in your skills are our top priority. Sign up for our skills update program today and make sure you stay in control in any diving situation.

    Indoor Diver

    Indoor Diver

An Indoordiver is a diver who makes his first dives in a swimming pool or a specially designed diving pool. The Indoordiver course teaches the basics of diving under controlled conditions before going into open water. Upon successful completion, the diver receives a certificate that qualifies them for certain dives in confined water. What is an indoor diver course? An indoor diver course is a diving course that takes place in a controlled environment such as a swimming pool or indoor diving center. The course teaches the basic diving skills and knowledge required for safe diving. Difference to Open Water Diver: The main difference to the Open Water Diver course is that all dives in the Indoor Diver course take place in a swimming pool or an artificial body of water, rather than in open water. After completing the Indoor Diver course, you can usually dive with a buddy or under the supervision of an instructor to a certain depth (often 18 meters) in confined waters. Additional open water dives are often required to obtain full open water certification. Benefits of an indoor diver course: Safety: The course provides a safe learning environment without the risks of waves, currents and other uncertainties of open water. Controlled environment: Instructors have full control over the conditions and can customize learning progress. Preparation for open water dives: The course teaches the basic skills and knowledge required for open water diving. Ideal for beginners: The Indoor Diver course is a good introduction for anyone who wants to start diving without having to jump into deep water immediately. Faster entry: An indoor diver course is often quicker and easier to complete than a full open water diver course. Requirements for an indoor diver course: Minimum age: The minimum age for the course is usually 10 years. Health: It is important that the diver is healthy and fit to dive. Motivation: The willingness to learn the basics of diving and to practice under supervision is also important. In summary, the Indoor Diver course is a good way to learn the basics of diving in a safe and controlled environment in preparation for open water diving.

Referral Diver and Indoor Diver Update to Open Water Diver

Referral Diver and Indoor Diver Update to Open Water Diver

An indoordiver who wishes to progress to Open Water Diver (OWD) can do so by completing a specialty course that includes the open water dives. This course is an ideal option for indoor divers who want to expand their skills in open water and enjoy the full freedom of diving to 18 meters with a buddy, without the constant accompaniment of an instructor. The Indoor Diver course is essentially a preparation for the OWD, with the open water dives in the Indoor Diver course being replaced by indoor dives. In order to obtain the OWD, the missing open water dives must be completed. Advantages of an OWD course for indoor divers: Extended diving options: With the OWD certificate, you can dive to depths of up to 18 meters worldwide and rent equipment, which is not possible with the indoor diver alone. Independence: The OWD makes it possible to dive with a buddy without the supervision of a diving instructor. Increased self-confidence: Completing open water dives strengthens self-confidence and skills in handling diving equipment and in different conditions. Preparation for further courses: The OWD is the basis for further diving courses such as the Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD). Upgrade course procedure: The course usually includes the theory and practical pool exercises that have already been completed in the indoor diver course. The missing open water dives (usually 2 or 4) are carried out to consolidate the skills learned under real conditions. After successful completion of the open water dives and a final examination, the OWD certificate is issued. In summary, the step from Indoor Diver to Open Water Diver is a worthwhile investment to fully experience the world of diving and to apply the skills learned in open water.

    Diving in Lake Schwerin

Lake Schwerin, located in northern Germany, offers a range of intriguing freshwater dive sites, suitable for all skill levels. One of the key spots is the Ziegelsee, a quarry dive that presents divers with an underwater landscape of sunken trees and remnants of historic structures. This dive is particularly popular for its serene atmosphere and the clarity of its waters, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced divers.

For those interested in shore diving, the southern parts of the lake provide easy access to vibrant underwater meadows where divers can observe a variety of local aquatic life, including pike and perch. The lake's mild currents and diverse underwater topography offer a unique diving experience, with the possibility of encountering rare freshwater jellyfish, providing a memorable adventure for dive enthusiasts.

The best Months to dive in Lake Schwerin

Lake Schwerin offers year-round diving opportunities, with conditions varying by season. During summer, water temperatures range from 18°C–22°C/64°F–72°F, providing pleasant diving conditions. In winter, the water cools significantly to around 2°C–6°C/36°F–43°F, requiring more thermal protection for divers. Visibility generally ranges from 5 to 10 meters/16 to 33 feet, although it can vary with weather conditions.

Diving is possible throughout the year, but late autumn and winter present challenges due to colder temperatures and reduced daylight. Wind can affect the lake's surface conditions, occasionally leading to stronger currents and choppy waters. Overall, divers can enjoy Schweriner See year-round, with spring and summer offering the most favorable conditions for exploration.

Top Wildlife Sightings in Lake Schwerin
