The best Months to Dive in Southern Region

The Southern Region of Papua New Guinea offers exceptional diving conditions year-round, with seasonal variations that divers should consider. Water temperatures generally range from 26°C to 29°C, providing comfortable conditions throughout the year. Visibility is typically excellent, often exceeding 30 meters, thanks to the region's clean and clear waters.

Diving is possible year-round, but the best conditions are usually from May to November, when the southeast trade winds are mild, minimizing surface chop and currents. During the wet season, from December to April, divers might experience stronger winds and currents, which can affect visibility and access to certain dive sites. Despite these variations, the Southern Region remains a top destination for divers seeking diverse marine life and vibrant coral reefs.
