Kanmurishima Island

Kanmurishima Island is an uninhabited island with a circumference of 4km near the exit of Wakasa Bay in Kyoto Prefecture. The site is famous for its natural monument, the Great Horned Plover. The waters around the island are almost entirely surrounded by sheer cliffs, and the underwater terrain is dynamic.

You can enjoy a wide range of scenery such as large migratory fish such as yellowtail and red snapper, yellowtail and flathead mackerel targeting schools of spiny dogfish, horse mackerel and Japanese sardines, and tornado of pike in the fall. The area is also home to a variety of soft coral and soft corals, where you can see yellowfin reef sharks, bluefin reef sharks, scorpionfish, flathead reef sharks, and spoonbills.
