Okubo Hama

★★★★☆ (119)

Located in the northern part of the island, this is the main dive site of Miyakejima. This is a beach entry only. The terrain is formed by lava flowing into the water, with roots protruding offshore. There is a fairly large area to the east and west of the dive site, and you can’t go all the way around on one dive.

A treasure trove of rare macro life including the Japanese Pygmy Seahorses. Many organisms can be seen along the walls of the roots, but also around the coral in the shallow water above the roots, where a variety of organisms are hiding. It has a large overhang and is home to a lot of scorpionfish. Also, sea turtles are often seen in shallow waters.
