The ship lies at a depth of 23 meters on the port side, the upper deck of the wreck is reached at a depth of 15 meters. She is located in the middle of Rödhamnsfjärden about 20 minutes by boat from the harbor.
S/S Hindenburg was a German icebreaker of the Imperial Navy. On the morning of March 9, 1918, Hindenburg led a convoy of German cruisers. Shortly after setting sail from Kärringsund in Eckerö, the calm was broken by a powerful explosion. The ship stopped, a frozen floating mine had blown a large hole in the bow.
