Angel Shark

More reminiscent of rays than of the typical torpedo shaped shark, the angel sharks are a group of 23 different bottom dwelling, flattened shark species that live in temperate to tropical waters. All of them are great at camouflage and can be difficult to spot. Consider yourself lucky if you ever get to scuba dive with one of them as many are critically endangered. The Pacific angel shark is commonly sighted amongst the kelp forests of Southern California, whereas another species congregates in large numbers off of the Canary Islands, making this one of the best region in the world to encounter them.

La Lagunita (★4.4)

To the northeast side of Isla de Lobos, you encounter a huge volcanic platform; from 18-20m it descends towards the sand reaching 26-28 m and creates a wall in the S/N direction. Near the middle of the ridge, there is a canyon through which you can enter the platform and climb up through a hole above it.

Bajón del Río (★4.6)

Three huge mushroom-shaped volcanic rocks, formed after thousands of years of waves and currents, rise from the sandy bottom at about 15m deep creating a unique landscape. The games of light between the sand and the overhangs, cracks and lava rocks, as well as the abundance of life, create a magical atmosphere

Izu Oceanic Park (★3.7)

Izu Oceanic Park is the most popular dive site in Higashi-Izu. The facilities are good and there is a pool. In the summer, the area is crowded with beachgoers and ordinary people who use the pool.

This is one our favourite dive sites since it has the widest range of wildlife. The reef gently slopes down from the island apart from the wall at the south west which drops 22-26 meters.

Private marina just 8 kilometers south of Reina Sofia airport. Only a few centers have legal access since the entrance is from a jetty reserved for divers where the passage of boats is prohibited. There are bathrooms with showers and a bar/restaurant.

Just about 15 kilometers south of the airport sits this marine protected area where you can dive all year round because it is protected by the Trade Winds.

Tufia (Playa de Tufia) located just north of the Airport. A small beach/bay is accessed via a well maintained pedestrian road from the upper car park down to waters edge, this is quite a steep hill on the way back up, it will test your aerobic abilities for sure ;-) Depth ranges from 15-21m, recommend Open water +.

The crosses in Malpique is probably one of the most famous dive spots in this area. You will find 39 crosses set as a monument for the martyrs of Tazacorte. Besides exploring the amazing crosses, the area surrounding the monument is a beautiful dive site as well.

Baja de Luis (★4.3)

This plateau is a huge volcanic oval-shaped rock that emerges from a bottom of sand and rocks that reaches a depth of 14m, while on top of the rock we have about 8-9 m. This little gap creates a small wall that we can follow to make a complete turn around, looking for marine life between the cracks and cuts

Beautifull shipwreck in deep water. Attention with the current, it can do really difficult dive. The visibility is around 20 meters all year around.

La Bocayna stands out among many dive sites on the north side of Lobos for its variety of seascape and routes. We anchor where the platform falls from 15m towards a sandy area at a right angle to approximately 22m.

On the east side of Isla de Lobos lays ‘la Carrera’, a white-sandy lagoon surrounded by black volcanic rocks at around 15m depth. Massive fallen rocks create little caverns and beautiful overhangs, while sandstone rock formation on the west side of the lagoon give the impression of a moon-like environment

A very peculiar site, it is located in an underwater convergence between the southern tip of Lobos and the dunes’ coast at 18-20m. It consists of a fossil sand rock (sandstone) formation in the middle of a sandy desert that stretches in a S/N direction for almost 1km, while in width it does not exceed 20m

Meteor, Arguineguin, Gran Canaria (★4.3)

The Meteor or El Pajar wreck is the remains of a Russian hydrofoil that sank back in the early 2000’s. Seen the wreck is in the entry of a commercial port, it was destroyed in an attempt to keep the divers away. Despite this attempt, the wreck remains home to quite some wildlife.

Ito (★4.4)

Ito is a relatively new point located in Tateyama, Boso Peninsula, Chiba Prefecture. You’ll see baited sharks and stingrays, as well as large groupers. Boat diving only. There are buoys at either end of a large, narrow root, and depending on the current, the fish will enter from one buoy and rise from the other.
