Classified Diving Instructor

SSI is pleased to announce the complete update of its Classified Diver Program. These updates include new standards, a new instructor manual and unique skill descriptions with best practices for adaptive diving. What is the SSI Classified Diving Program? The SSI Classified Diving Program offers adaptive training for students with reduced mobility or sensory impairments, allowing them to dive with one or more Classified Dive Buddies or a Classified Dive Professional. Through this program, people with disabilities or reduced mobility, with medical clearance, can experience the thrill of diving. First in pool or confined water, and then potentially in open water. What is the Classified Diving program? The student-centered SSI Classified Diving program is designed specifically for individuals who are unable to meet some of the stand-alone dive skill requirements for SSI Open Water Diver certification. SSI Classified Diving Instructors know how to tailor the SSI Open Water Diver program and training materials to meet the specific needs of their students. All Classified Diving students complete all Open Water Diver program skill assessments. However, depending on your abilities, specific techniques may change and assistance in performing them is allowed. READ MORE: HOW LEARNING TO SCUBA DIVE WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE There are 3 levels of classified diver based on the diver's abilities: Level 1 - Must dive with one certified classified dive buddy. Level 2 - Must dive with two (2) certified classified dive buddies. Level 3 - Must dive with two (2) certified rated dive buddies and one (1) rated dive professional. The Classified Dive Buddy certification qualifies an SSI Stress & Rescue diver or above to dive with a Level 1, 2 and 3 certified Classified Diver. The SSI Classified Diver program goes beyond teaching adaptive diving techniques. This program creates a network of Classified Divers, Buddies and professionals so that everyone can experience the thrill of diving safely.
