Diving in the Tijucas Islands Archipelago

The Tijucas Islands Archipelago is one of the main diving spots in Rio de Janeiro, located in the open sea, near Barra da Tijuca. The region offers excellent biodiversity, rock formations, reefs, caves and walls, providing dives for different levels of experience.

It is common to find sea turtles, rays, moray eels, groupers, sea bass, schools of reef fish, as well as a wide variety of invertebrates and corals. Visibility conditions vary depending on the time of year, making each dive a unique experience.

The operations are carried out by vessel, following all SSI safety standards and maritime legislation.

Requirements

  • Minimum certification: Open Water Diver SSI (or equivalent from a recognized agency).
  • Minimum age as per certification.
  • Complete scuba diving equipment.
  • Good physical condition for open water activity.
  • Completion of the SSI Medical Declaration. If the answers are positive, a valid medical certificate will be required.
  • Respect the certification limits and the guidelines of the Divemaster or responsible Instructor.

Recommended:

  • Enriched Air Nitrox certification for those who want to extend their bottom time.
  • Advanced Adventurer or Advanced Open Water to explore deeper spots.

  • Depth: approximately 6 to 30 meters (depending on the dive site and certification).
  • Difficulty level: Easy to intermediate.
  • Water temperature: between 18°C ​​and 27°C throughout the year.
  • Visibility: typically between 5 and 20 meters, but may vary depending on sea conditions.
  • Current: weak to moderate, depending on the tide and weather conditions.
  • Navigation time: approximately 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the chosen destination.

Each dive trip typically includes two dives at locations selected according to the day's conditions, prioritizing safety and the quality of the experience.
