What is Enriched Air Nitrox?

Enriched Air Nitrox, EANx, Nitrox, Enriched Air, generally these terms are all used interchangeably by divers. Nitrox is a special blend of air where the oxygen content is higher than the 21% we find in regular compressed air. This reduces the amount of nitrogen in the mix, and therefore extends our no decompression limits. But it's vitally important to understand the restrictions placed on a diver, because once we start to use a higher percentage of oxygen we are put at greater risk.

The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox specialty will teach you about those risks and considerations when using nitrox.

Open Water Diver course with a combination of shore dives and boat dives - 5 dives in total

This is the most popular option between November and April. Starting the course with shore dives allows us several advantages: we have more time during the dives, and in between the dives, to practice skills, explore the reef, give you briefings, debriefings, and make sure you're ready for the more challenging dives from the boat on the final day.Our beach reef in Kata is the perfect place to hone your skills without time pressures, so you can build your confidence, in a safe environment, and see a multitude of fish species that inhabit our local reef.

Basic Diver

Never been diving before? What better place to try than off the coast of this beautiful island of Phuket? The beautiful, clear waters, calm bays with no current and abundant marine life make Phuket a perfect place to learn to dive. During the SSI Basic Diver program, you will learn the basics of diving theory before your first dive in the ocean. We keep this informal and relaxed, while still making sure you're fully informed and ready to go diving! The minimum age for the SSI Try Scuba Diving program is 10 years old, and your maximum depth will be 12m (40 feet). You'll be doing a real dive at a dive spot that's popular with the most experienced divers. Meet nemo, butterfly fish, batfish, lion fish and many, many more species, and be back at your hotel by lunchtime.
