It’s great that you want to keep moving forward! The course
SSI Advanced Adventurer
(which is the equivalent of “Advanced Open Water” in SSI) is the next logical step.
Unlike the first course,
There are no theory exams or pool hours here
. It’s 100% hands-on and all about getting out there to have fun in the ocean while trying different types of diving. Upon completion, your depth limit increases from 18 to
30 meters deep
.
????️ How does the course work?
You will be doing
5 specialty dives
different topics alongside your instructor. You choose the topics you like best, but there are two that are mandatory:
- Deep Dive (Required): You’ll descend to 30 meters to learn how your body reacts to pressure and how to manage your air at greater depths.
- Underwater Navigation (Required): You’ll learn how to use a compass and identify natural landmarks so you don’t get lost and always know how to find your way back to the boat.
- 3 Dives of Your Choice: You can choose from super fun options like Night Diving (with flashlights), Perfect Buoyancy (to move like an astronaut), Wreck Diving (sunken ships), or Fish Identification.
???? What do you need to get started?
- Prerequisite: Hold an Open Water Diver certification
- Health: Keep your medical record up to date
- Experience: None required! You can start the Advanced course immediately after completing your first course.
????️ Why is this worth doing?
It opens the door to the world’s best dive sites. Many of the most beautiful corals, famous shipwrecks, and large animals (such as sharks and manta rays) are found at depths of more than 18 meters. Without this certification, many dive centers won’t allow you to join those excursions.
