Training Techniques

The SSI Decompression Diving specialty will teach you how to dive beyond the limits of decompression. You will learn how to plan and perform diving to a maximum depth of 40 meters with limited decompression using its total recreational diving system and a single decompression tank. You will learn and practice how to efficiently use the features of your dive computer, including gas changes, gas integration, reserve time and time to surface. Using these computer functions will become second nature, allowing you to perform dives with limited decompression without hours of dive planning. Upon completion, you will receive SSI Decompression Diving Specialty certification and will be able to explore impressive deep dive sites or larger wrecks without being restricted by traditional no-decompression limits. The Divemaster program is the first step of an exciting journey. Earn the respect of your fellow divers and become a diving ambassador by taking the Divemaster program. All you need to get started are 40 verified/registered dives and certifications in Deep Diving, Sailing, Night and Limited Visibility or at least 5 verified/logged dives in each area, plus Diver Stress and Rescue. You will be certified as a Dive Guide after successfully completing the Divemaster program. When your interest is to turn your passion into a profession, guiding certified divers, teaching Ecology programs, assisting instructors or even becoming an instructor, your next step is the Divemaster Upgrade with a minimum of 60 logged/verified dives. Upgrade to Divemaster immediately or at any time by studying Science of Diving materials and passing the Digital Final Exam that makes you an SSI Professional. The SSI Basic Freediver Course is your first step into the calm and exhilarating world of freediving. In this introductory course, you'll learn how to safely freedive in a pool with a partner, reaching depths of up to 5 meters. The combination of online training and in-water practice provides all the skills and knowledge you need to become a confident freediver. Upon completion, you will receive your SSI Basic Freediver certification.
