Well lit by the sun, the USS Massachusetts is a popular diving spot. It is located 1.5 nautical miles south-southwest of Pensacola Pass in 26-30 feet/8-9m of water. The shipwreck is located within the Fort Pickens State Aquatic Preserve, which is adminstered by the Florida Department of Natural Resources.
This 175′ x 40′ x 10′ barge with numerous steel structures welded to its deck was sunk in July 2013 and is now known as the Joe Patti Memorial Reef. It instantly became one of the areas most popular inshore dive sites.
Depth: 65-75ft. GPS Location: Latitude 30 16.138′ N Longitude 87 10.157′ WSunk in 1982 the Tex Edwards Barge sits in about 75′ of water roughly 7 miles east of Pensacola Pass. While the site has subsided some over the years, large sections of the barge remain intact.
New Venture, a 250-foot surveying vessel, located 20 miles south of Orange Beach in 120 feet of water. The top of the structure is between 55 and 60 feet below the surface. A great dive site for those looking for a large intact wreck. There are large “cut outs“ on the sides of the vessel for an easy exit.
The Oriskany is sitting upright on the seafloor in a north-south orientation with the bow facing due south.The uppermost structure of the Oriskany is located at: Latitude 30 degrees 2 minutes 33.3 seconds north (Lat 30° 2.555’ N) Longitude 87 degrees 0 minutes 23.8 seconds west. (Lon 87° 0.397’W).
Go Navy Tug (local name) Real name : Rigger 2 - Former Tug for the Navy mainly used to move assets around in the port. Sunk by Lee Statler (Commercial Diver) mid 1980s
Depth: 80-137′ GPS Location: Latitude 30 04.244′ N Longitude 87 02.118′ WThe Chevron Rig consist of two platform jackets that were donated and deployed in 1993 as a part of the “Rigs to Reefs” program turning retired oil platforms into artificial reefs.
LuLu, a 271-foot, steel-hulled former coastal freighter originally named Yokamu. Purpose-sunk on May 26, 2013, LuLu sits upright on a 115-foot sand bottom; its picturesque wheelhouse tops out at a rec-diver-friendly 60 feet.
