Malaysia, in general, has a tropical climate which consists more specifically of a rainy season and a dry season. Luckily for divers the dry season is twice as long as the rainy season and means 8 months, of great diving conditions, to be enjoyed. The rainy season runs from the beginning of November till the end of February and due to the rain and stronger winds, conditions are not ideal for the smaller boats to go out and the reduction in visibility. However, during the dry season, the sea is much calmer and it hardly rains at all. The water temperature ranges from 27 degrees Celsius in the rainy season up to 30 degrees Celsius in the warmest month in the dry season. The visibility lies between 10 and 25 metres on average, and higher on the clearest days. The best time for larger species such as Whale Sharks and Manta Rays are in March and April.
