Lion’s Mane Jellyfish

The lion’s mane jellyfish is the world’s largest jellyfish species. This open-ocean dweller can grow to over 2 m (6-7 ft) in diameter and have tentacles trailing behind them up to 120 feet long. The “mane“ of these long, hair-like tentacles hangs from the bell-shaped body’s underside, consisting of eight tentacle clusters housing up to 150 tentacles per cluster. These gelatinous creatures are easy to spot thanks to their large size and dark yellow to reddish hue, and bioluminescent abilities, which help them stand out against the blue background of the water.

RTN Kled Gaeow (Wreck) (★4.5)

Decommissioned in 2014, the ship was donated and purposely sunk via controlled explosion to create a new dive site on 19 March 2014. The 47 metre long wreck sits almost upright (20 degree list) facing north to south (bow-stern), some 800-1000m to the east of Piley Bay (Ko Phi Phi Ley).

This wall dive is on the barrier reef of Vatu-i-Ra Island, starting in 1msw dropping down to 24msw which is best dived as a drift on the outgoing tide. There are lots of crevices, cracks & swim-throughs to explore & plenty of critters large & small to keep everyone entertained.

HMAS Brisbane (Wreck) (★4.1)

The HMAS Brisbane was scuttled in July 2005 to create an artificial reef off Mooloolaba’s Sunshine Coast. The Queensland government created a Conservation Park around the wreck. This wreck is buzzing with beautiful marine life.

White Rock, also known as White Rock and Black Rock, is located to the south of Nan Yuan Island, adjacent to Koh Tao. The whole site is a fairly large root, so no matter how many dives you do, you will never get bored of it, depending on the course you take, the depth and the type of life you observe. Beginners and seasoned divers alike should enjoy it.

Tucked between the city pier and PetroStars mooring dock, this cove is the preferred winter training site of Test The Waters Dive Center. General access is at the kayak launch on the right side of the cove. Test The Waters has private access through the PetroStar access ramp on the right side of the cove.

Greencastle Shore (★4.7)

This is a sheltered training site easily accessible from the shore. A sandy intertidal area leads to a rocky outcropping covered in seaweed and kelp.

The Farne Islands are famous for a colony of 4.5 thousand grey seals and teeming with life on the many varied dive sites. Most of the sites are around the outer Farnes with wrecks and reefs to explore.

This shallow reef is part of the continuous fringing reef that runs along the north eastern coast of Havelock Island. It is the house reef for centers close by.

Location: In front of Juara Scuba Academy dive center. Can walk straight off the beach and dive into underwater experiences; Depth: 8m; Current: Sometimes mild current; Site: Sandy bottomed bay ranging between 2 - 5 m which moves into shallow fringing reefs.

Within 30 mins from Sai Kung Pier and Pak Sha Wan. Shelter Island is a site suitable for beginner divers. 3-5 meters depth is best for scuba diving where coral area is found. Beyond 6 meter is sandy/muddy bottom.

Bahai (★4.3)

Heading north from Juara, and only 10 minutes from Juara Jetty. An easy dive site for beginners, good for macro photographer. Good dive site to dive.

Location: 7 minute boat drive south of Juara Bay in a sheltered cove; Depth: 24m; Current: Surge from waves can be present in shallow areas; Site: Coral reef covered bay, rocky structures and rock walls surround the bay and lead onto a second shallow coral reef and fresh water boulder area, no mooring line
