In
Schweriner Außensee, a particularly rare relic from the
Russian occupation era awaits you. The aircraft wreck of what is believed to be a MiG-17
was long considered a legend before it was finally discovered in 2013.
Due to its exposed location in the northern part of Lake Schwerin, you’ll need to
allow a little more time for this trip. In return, you’ll be rewarded with an
unforgettable dive at a unique piece of aviation history.
The MiG crashed in 1954.
Today, the aluminum hull sticks out like a dart from the seabed at a depth of 17 meters.
The wreck is completely covered in small mussels. Nevertheless,
details such as the tail section and remnants of wiring and
instruments are clearly visible. One wing is still attached to the
hull and protrudes like a metal wall, half-submerged in the silt
. The other wing lies a few meters away from the
wreck and still bears the clearly recognizable red SSI star.
