The OWD course fee in 2026 is 400€. After paying 200€ you will receive the course material, which you can access online through the SSI system. If you make a mistake, no problem, there are plenty of revision opportunities immediately at no extra cost. The test is passed with 100%. You can then pay the next instalment of 200€ and start the practice. This is usually 3 days, with a minimum of 6 dives, lots of practice and repetition. It's important to get into a routine with the exercises, because almost without exception you will use them all later in the dives and there will be situations when you won't have time to think. You need to learn the exercises in a routine way. If your instructor thinks you need more practice dives, you can take them for an extra €40 per session. You will be in constant communication before, during and after the training dives, any questions you have can be discussed. If you have any questions about the theory or anything you don't understand, you can ask that too. During the 6 (8) dives you will go through all the required exercises, followed by an open water dive and this is where the exam concludes. You will then receive your digital card, which certifies that you have successfully completed the OWD course and can dive with an instructor or Dive Master anywhere in the world during the day at a maximum depth of 18 metres (65 feet) under normal conditions. If you wish to apply for a plastic card, there is a €15 surcharge. It is advisable to book in advance. The fee for the course covers all costs, registration, theoretical course material with lifetime access, equipment during the dives. There are no hidden costs.
