SS Thistlegorm - Full day dive
As the Thistlegorm is considered one of the highlights of the Northern Red Sea, we strongly recommend including this excursion within a multi-day diving package, allowing proper check dives and adaptation before the trip.
One of the most legendary wreck dives in the world, the SS Thistlegorm is much more than a dive site - it is a real underwater museum frozen in time. Sunk in October 1941 during World War II after a German air attack, this British cargo ship was carrying military supplies including trucks, motorcycles, rifles, locomotives and aircraft parts destined for Allied troops in Egypt. Today, resting at around 30 meters depth in the Strait of Gubal, it remains one of the most iconic dives of the Red Sea.
Our Thistlegorm excursion is organized as a full-day trip with very early morning departure, twice per week, in order to reach the wreck before the busiest traffic and enjoy the best possible diving conditions.
The wreck offers:
- impressive exterior structures
- historical cargo holds
- penetration opportunities
- huge propellers and anti-aircraft guns
- abundant marine life around the wreck itself
Because of depth, currents and navigation conditions, this excursion is recommended for experienced divers only.

Requirements
Requirements:
- Advanced Open Water Diver certification (SSI AOWD or equivalent).
- Minimum recommended experience: 20 logged dives
- Mandatory check dive before joining the excursion.
- Comfortable deep diving skills and good buoyancy control required
For safety and dive comfort, Nitrox is strongly recommended.
