The SSI Science of Diving Specialty course provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the underwater world and its effects on the human body. The course is the foundation for most SSI Professional courses as well as some Extended Range courses and is an essential part of deepening your diving knowledge. You will try Deep Diving and Navigation as well as 3 other specialty areas before deciding on a full specialty training. It's a great way to experience what Advanced Open Water Diver training is all about and how valuable it can be for your diving adventures. During the Advanced Open Water Diver program you will learn 5 different specialties by completing one open water training dive per specialty after a detailed briefing with your SSI Instructor. This program gives you complete freedom to explore everything. You can complete the entire specialty training at any time and receive credit for your Advanced Open Water Diver training.

This specialty course provides you with the knowledge and advanced skills you need to navigate safely and confidently underwater. You will learn the correct use of the compass, natural navigation techniques, estimating distances, leaving and returning to a given point and simple navigation patterns. Night dives require very different skills than daylight dives. The SSI Night Diving & Limited Visibility Specialty course is the best way to learn all about night diving and practice the techniques required to make you a safe and confident night diver. This course will give you all the knowledge and skills to dive safely and relaxed at night or in limited visibility conditions. In a balanced mix of online learning and open water dives, you will learn how to use special equipment, the correct entry and exit techniques and how to communicate with your dive buddy at night and in limited visibility.
