Recreational Sidemount Diving

Recreational Sidemount Diving

Occasionally you see more and more divers who no longer dive with one or two tanks on their back (backmount), but carry the tanks on their side (sidemount). But why do they do this and are there any advantages over the other system? sidemount diving was developed by wreck and cave divers, for whom the most hydrodynamic position possible was important in order to fit through narrow and small passages. In the meantime, more and more divers are discovering the advantages of this diving style, which is characterized by more relaxed buoyancy control and better freedom of movement without the tank on the back. As this system requires different handling than conventional systems, it is important to learn how to use the sidemount system correctly and safely.
