Capernwray is the North-West’s inland dive site frequented by many divers and schools. Tends to open at weekends and from thursdays in the winter and on wednesdays through to evening in the summer.

There are many fish, perch, roach, trout and sturgeon within the quarry and many boats, as well as two planes, diving bell, thunderbird 5, an Apex van, and a helicopter

The SSI Independent Diver course trains divers to dive independently, focusing on self-sufficiency, safety, and proper dive planning. Course Purpose and Focus The SSI Independent Diver specialty course is designed for divers who wish to enhance their skills and dive without a buddy. The course emphasizes self-sufficiency, teaching divers to be aware of their personal and environmental conditions while planning dives effectively. It is particularly popular among experienced underwater photographers and videographers who seek greater freedom underwater. To enroll in the SSI Independent Diver course, participants must meet the following prerequisites: Age: Minimum of 18 years old. Certification: Must hold an Open Water Diver certification or equivalent. Experience: At least 75 logged dives totaling 50 hours or more in open water. 2 Specialty Courses: Completion of specific specialty courses or proof of experience in areas such as navigation, night diving, and deep diving. What You Will Learn The course consists of classroom sessions, pool training, and open water dives. Key skills taught include: Dive Planning: How to plan dives independently, considering personal limitations and environmental factors. Emergency Procedures: Techniques for managing equipment failures and emergencies while diving alone. Navigation Skills: Essential navigation techniques to ensure safe diving without a buddy.
