Explore Northern Egypt

When travellers come to Egypt to go diving, then usually, the first thought is to go and visit the Red Sea and admire the flourishing coral reefs, the large variety of fish and other marine species living in these reefs, and the selection of larger marine species including large pelagic species. The good news is that Northern Egypt also has some diving areas and sites to explore. There are a few diving centres which operate in this area and there are also liveaboards which depart from this area, or visit this area. Diving locations here include the historical diving sites of Alexandria where divers descend down into the history of this country, the dive centres in Cairo which offer dive courses and the relaxing dives at Port Said and Ain Sukhna.

Diving in Northern Egypt

Northern Egypt offers a diverse range of dive sites, attracting enthusiasts with both shore and liveaboard options. The Thistlegorm wreck, a highlight, is a World War II ship that provides an intriguing dive filled with history and marine life. Nearby, Ras Mohammed National Park boasts vibrant coral reefs and the Shark Reef's thrilling currents, ideal for more experienced divers. For those seeking shore dives, Dahab's Blue Hole offers easy access and stunning underwater vistas. The Blue Hole is famous for its vertical coral-lined walls and the Arch, a deeper passage for advanced divers. Unique experiences include night dives in the Strait of Tiran, where divers can witness nocturnal marine behaviors, adding excitement to any dive itinerary.

The best Months to dive in Northern Egypt

Northern Egypt offers year-round diving opportunities, with conditions varying across seasons. The Red Sea's water temperatures range from 22°C (72°F) in winter to 30°C (86°F) in summer, making it suitable for diving throughout the year. Visibility remains excellent, typically ranging from 20 to 30 meters, thanks to the clear and calm waters.

While diving is possible year-round, divers should be aware of seasonal weather changes. Winter months can bring stronger winds and currents, slightly affecting dive conditions. Despite this, many diving sites remain accessible, with the spring and autumn periods often considered optimal due to milder temperatures and calmer seas.
