Underwater enthusiasts are always overjoyed to see a turtle while snorkeling or diving. These friendly-looking, ancient reptiles are found worldwide in tropical and subtropical areas. Sea turtles can live for up to 100 years and are believed to have existed here on earth for millions of years. Many facts about sea turtles are astonishing, but the most amazing is that female sea turtles return to the exact beach where they were born to lay their eggs. A journey that can cover thousands of kilometers, they dig their shallow nests in the sand with their flippers, an incredible achievement, and an awe-inspiring sight to see. Most locations where you can dive with sea turtles are also where you can sneak a peek at this miraculous egg-laying practice that is as old as time itself.
The best-known sea turtles are the Green Sea Turtle, Leatherback Sea Turtle, Hawksbill Sea Turtle, and Loggerhead Sea Turtle. All share the same basic body structure as their terrestrial relatives, the tortoise, but with a few adaptions for a sea-going lifestyle. Sea turtle bodies are slightly flattened and streamlined, with large flippers to propel them effortlessly through the water. Great thila with many small overhangs that often serve as shelter for rays, nurse sharks and turtles. Soft corals and extremely many anemones !! Due to its location in a canal, a current must always be expected. We, therefore, recommend having experience with currents or a * special * dive.
Wonderful drift dive in a frenzy of colors. This reef is like an open subway tunnel cut on the side. Soft corals in many different colors hang everywhere in the tunnel. In the middle of the canal, there are coral blocks with a good chance of gray reef shark (when there’s current). The perfect place for a current specialty!
Because of its current, BKT is reserved for experienced divers or is dived in times of low current. Not far from BBT, the rock rises to a depth of 16m. The south side has a nice plateau at 25m and then drops off steeply to 40m. Cleaning station for gray reef sharks!
Great challenging reef that consists of 2 thilas. The eastern Thila is not that big and is circled in 25 to 30 minutes then you fly about. 120m to the 2nd thila. Here it goes down again to look for a frogfish. Between November and April mantas and mobulas possible.
Really nice drift dive on a sloping wall and blocks in the more sloping area full of soft corals and marine life. It starts at 4 to 5 meters and goes down to 30+ meters and is one side of a channel. You can expect current but not too strong.
Small Thila directly on the island of Villingilli on the offshore plateau in the direction of the channel between Raa and Baa Atoll. Usually a jump into the blue water east of the Thila above the plateau at the edge for approx. Let drift along 30m towards Thila and then slowly climb up the Thila. Current !!!!
