Open Water Diver

The Open Water Diver course is the most important course of all dive training because it is when you first come into contact with the big blue and learn to enjoy and experience it. We have therefore designed this course with special care and love so that new divers can learn to dive in a safe and fun way.

The course consists of two parts:

Theory (before coming to Buceo Norte).

This part of the course is done on-line. Before coming to our dive center we recommend that you have completed the study program. SSI provides us with this dynamic interactive tool so that you can study in a comfortable way and at your own pace so you can use all the time you are at our dive center to dive.

Practical (In Buceo Norte, 4 sessions distributed in a minimum of 3 days)

  • Session 1: We will review in the classroom the information that has not been completely clear and we will do a questionnaire to reaffirm the theory.

  • Session 2: We will make two dives in shallow and calm waters to learn all the skill exercises that are necessary to perform before starting to dive.

  • Session 3: We will make two open water dives to start training the previous day's exercises.

  • Session 4: We will finish the course with two open water dives to perfect the diving technique.

These are the minimum sessions necessary to complete the course but, if the instructor considers that the student needs more sessions to be certified, they will be included in the course price.

Start today - You need to be a Divemaster or equivalent to join SSI's 3-Step Instructor Training Approach. The training process begins with enrollment in the combined Assistant Instructor / Instructor Training Course accompanied by digital learning. Upon successful completion of the Instructor Training Course (ITC), you will enroll in an Instructor Evaluation (IE) to qualify as an SSI Open Water Instructor.
