Gobies

Gobies are one of the most diverse families of marine fish, with over 2,000 species found across the world’s oceans—especially in tropical coral reefs and sandy lagoons. These tiny bottom-dwellers often go unnoticed at first glance, but for those who slow down and look closely, gobies reveal a world of vibrant color, variety, and unique behavior. Commonly seen while scuba diving or snorkeling, gobies are often perched on sand, coral heads, or rubble patches. Some species live alone in shallow reef zones, while others form fascinating partnerships—most famously the shrimp-goby symbiosis, where a goby stands guard at the entrance of a burrow shared with a blind shrimp.
