Pollocks are common in the North Atlantic Ocean, mainly along the coastlines of Europe and North America. Pollocks consist of two species from the genus Pollachius and are part of the cod family, Gadidae. Pollocks are also commonly known as saithe or coalfish in Europe. They are a deep green color with a pale lateral line and a lighter underbelly.

Trá an Dóilín (Coral Beach) is one of only 2 known maerl beaches in Ireland. Depending on the tide depths range from 2m to 7m making it a perfect confined water dive site. If you visit it by night it’s a completely different dive suitable for divers with a little more experience. there is lots to see in Dóilín!

Porthkerris is a popular location with an on site dive centre offering boat charters, air fills, shop and the Porthkerris Beach Cafe. Porthkerris is also a great location for snorkelers and freedivers. Dolphin, seals and at the right time of year whales and basking sharks have all bee seen in the bay.

St. Abbs (★4.2)

Some of the most famous dive sites of St. Abbs are just 50m away from the wall of the harbour: “Cathedral Rock”, “Big Green Carr”, “Broad Craig” and “Little Carr”. These sites can be dived as a shore dive from the harbour or other sites can be reached by dive boat.

The Gazzle (★4.2)

The Gazzle lies within the Newquay Bay & Gannel Marine Conservation Zone. It is shallow shore dive, max depth - 10m on a high tide. Gradually deepening sandy slope with kelpy reef and an abundance of marine life. Gazzle (North) - Kelp/rocky reef, caverns. Gazzle (South) - Kelp/rocky reef, caverns, old slipway.

James Egan Layne (★4.3)

The James Eagan Layne was hit near the Eddystone reef and towed by Admiralty tugs towards Plymouth in an attempt to save as much cargo as possible. However, on her way back in, the stern collapsed causing her to sink in Whitsand Bay, where she now rests in an upright position on a sandy seabed.

The course platform for Prodykk can be used by agreement when Prodykk is not running a course. From the two buoys in the surface, the line goes down to the platform which is located at 7m depth.

Vinsjen (★4.0)

Just outside the course platform is Vinsjen at a depth of 36m. A few meters below the barge is an anonymous line inside the Drop off, follow this 51m out and the winch appears. And if you don’t find the barge.... check the description for it :)

TR Thompson (★4.0)

This was yet another Victim of UB-57 who sank her without any warning on 29th March 1918. The TR Thompson was 110m long and 14m wide weighing 3538 tons. Only 3 men of the 36 crew survived this sinking. Look out for the deck gun on the stern section.

Donegal Point (★4.9)

Found in a beautiful inlet along the coast is a peaceful kelp forest starting at 7m. After dropping into the kelp forest the dive follows a wall down to a max depth of 30m where you can spot an abundance of life in the cracks and overhangs as you swim through a airy cavern back around to the anchored boat.

The most consistent and beautiful shore dive in front of the Dive Centre offers a very sheltered dive site all year round. Depth 5 meters- 12 meters.

HMS Scylla, wreck (★4.1)

HMS Scylla was sunk in 2004, after laying in disrepair for ten years. A lot of work was done to ensure the ship was safe and easy to explore inside, and as expected, she has become a very popular dive site, situated some 40 minutes by boat from Plymouth.

Very popular dive, however limited because of it’s position and the local currents and tides. Lying upright on the sea bed at a depth of around 32m and going up to around 18m.

The Chicago (★3.9)

This was a 100-year-old liner that ran up on the rocks. It lies in 9 to 20 meters of water. The ship is well broken up, but there are some nice swim-throughs. You can still see the boiler engine and prop shaft.

Tony's Crack (★4.7)

A stunning underwater canyon, located a stones throw from the diamond rocks. Max depth of 18m, averaging 15m for the majority of the dive. The walls on both sides are filled with life and an array of nooks and crannies to explore. Kelp forests at the top of the crack is the perfect place to finish a safety stop.

Chimney Bay (★4.8)

Chimney bay, located on the far side of George’s head is a kelp covered site ranging from 5m - 30m. It is a gently sloping bay with an array of life, in and around the kelp covered boulders which is perfect for divers of all abilities. Due to it’s sheltered nature, can be dived in most seas.

Gregory’s Sound (★4.6)

This dive site is accessible for every diver’s level. The dive is along gullies and small vertical walls. This is also a nice and easy drift dive.

Newfie (★4.8)

A beautiful nursery reef filled with life and colour! The perfect dive site for all levels with a sandy runway starting at 2m following a kelp covered rocky reef. Max depth of 10m. Newfie is well protected by the surrounding headland at low tide and can be dived in most seas.
