Sulawesi is one of the Greater Sunda Islands and covers slightly more than half the area of Germany. The Indonesian island is located between Kalimantan to the west and the Moluccas to the east. Selayar Island is an archipelago and part of South Sulawesi Province. It lies in the Flores Sea, separated from Sulawesi by the Selayar Strait. The entire eastern side of the island, where the resort is located, is surrounded by a fringing reef. Through persistent efforts, we have succeeded in placing one of the world’s last paradises—where humans have left hardly any traces— under nature conservation. In cooperation with the Indonesian government, a marine park was established, making diving a truly unique experience. The fringing reef consists mainly of steep walls and is dotted with overhangs and small caves, and an underwater mountain lies a short distance from the resort. Even before the marine park was established, Selayar’s unique abundance of fish was something special; since the reefs were placed under protection in 2000, word has apparently spread among the marine life. Breathtaking coral growth—soft corals on the steep walls and hard corals on the reef top—is impressive for every diver. The Selayar Dive Resort, with its private beach, was conceived, designed, and built in-house. The top priority was to incorporate the uniqueness of nature into the design and to embed the resort within the idyllic setting of the 1-kilometer-long white-sand beach on which the Selayar Dive Resort is located. The adventure begins with the famous Misool in the southern part of Raja Ampat National Park, crossing west toward the south of Halmahera. The abundance of sea life is just astonishing with both fixed fauna such as corals and gorgonians along the lush reef and a stunning quantity and diversity of fish swimming above. The dive sites’ underwater topographies are also varied and interesting filled with dramatic pinnacles, long ridges, walls, hidden caves, rock formations, azure lagoons and much more. The fauna ranges from the tiny pygmy seahorse to the oceanic manta rays. Raja Ampat’s signature are the huge schools of fish: clouds of fusiliers that attract predators like tunas and trevallies, barracudas, schools of inquisitive spadefish, schools of sweetlips, groups of bumphead parrotfish, Napoleon wrasses, and much more! The Amed and Tulamben area offers an incredible variety - great macro, walls, shipwrecks, reefs, and drift dives. We do our best to choose dive sites that match your preferences.The majority of dive sites in our area of East Bali are accessible by shore entry. For certain sites with stronger currents or unfavorable exit points, we work closely with the local fishermen community to hire them as captain and their jukung boats for the day; this comes with a small additional fee.
