Trá na Reilige

Trá na Reilige is an enjoyable shore dive on the Carraroe side of Costelloe Bay. It is accessed as a shore-dive and also makes a very nice snorkel spot! Is it best dove at high water. It ranges from 8m-12m.

Similiar to surrounding dive sites, the site is home to plenty of life including brown and spider crab.

The Chicago (★3.9)

This was a 100-year-old liner that ran up on the rocks. It lies in 9 to 20 meters of water. The ship is well broken up, but there are some nice swim-throughs. You can still see the boiler engine and prop shaft.

Shallow training site. Sandy bottom. Sheltered from most wind directions. It,s not very tidal except on big spring tides. The shallowest part is closest to the slip going from about 1m to 10m.

Santos (Wreck) (★4.3)

The Santos is a 100-year-old dredger wreck. It is well broken up but with nice features which include the dredger buckets, gears, and engine. The wreck lies at approximately 30 meters deep. You should always dive this wreck at slack tide.

UC42 Cork (★4.1)

This is a WWI submarine wreck which blew up on one of its own mines. It lies in approximately 28 meters of water. Features include the props conning tower and torpedo tides. This site should be dived in slack water. This is a war grave and should be respected as so.

Bridges of Ross (★3.0)

Beautiful shore dive with great geology. Swim out on the surface halfway out of of the bay, descend down and when you hit around 12m keep the wall on your right. about 15-20 minutes into the dive there is a crack on the wall. Follow that and you will find underwater bridges

Tony's Crack (★4.7)

A stunning underwater canyon, located a stones throw from the diamond rocks. Max depth of 18m, averaging 15m for the majority of the dive. The walls on both sides are filled with life and an array of nooks and crannies to explore. Kelp forests at the top of the crack is the perfect place to finish a safety stop.

The Pinnacle (★4.7)

This dive site is renowned for a reason, a triangular sphere of rock extending from 40m to 5m. From the bottom looking up it is a spectacle in itself. Start at your max depth and spiral around the rock until you reach the top, the perfect place for a safety stop.

Newfie (★4.8)

A beautiful nursery reef filled with life and colour! The perfect dive site for all levels with a sandy runway starting at 2m following a kelp covered rocky reef. Max depth of 10m. Newfie is well protected by the surrounding headland at low tide and can be dived in most seas.

Outer Rock (★3.9)

Outer Rock is a short 5-10 minute boat spin away from Kilkee pier. Depths range from 5m all the way down to 45 meters. It is actually possible to dive both Outer Rock and middle rock on the same dive as the join underwater at around 30m

Middle Rock is a short 5-10 minute boat spin away from Kilkee pier. Depths range from 5m all the way down to 45 meters. There are loads of swim throughs and small caverns

Chimney Bay (★4.8)

Chimney bay, located on the far side of George’s head is a kelp covered site ranging from 5m - 30m. It is a gently sloping bay with an array of life, in and around the kelp covered boulders which is perfect for divers of all abilities. Due to it’s sheltered nature, can be dived in most seas.

Illaunabaha (★5.0)

Illuanbatha is a beautiful reef dive a short boat trip North from Kilkee bay. Best dived before midday as the sun illuminates the reef wall. The east side of the reef starts at 12m with two slopes following the reef wall, one to 18-20m and the other to the rock field below at 25-30m.

Biraghty Mor (★5.0)

A 10 minute boat jounrey brings you to this rocky outcrop half way between Donegal point and Kilkee Bay. After a free descent to 30m you are greeted with a boulder field filled with nooks and crannys to explore, before arriving at the wall, which goes to and breaches the surface!

Donegal Point (★4.9)

Found in a beautiful inlet along the coast is a peaceful kelp forest starting at 7m. After dropping into the kelp forest the dive follows a wall down to a max depth of 30m where you can spot an abundance of life in the cracks and overhangs as you swim through a airy cavern back around to the anchored boat.

Back of Lime Rock (★4.0)

5-10 minute boat spin from Quilty pier. Drop on the corner of the small island and keep the wall on the left side. The wall is in the shape of a bowl and depths from 10m all the way to 35m can be found here

Portroe Quarry (★4.4)

Portroe Quarry has a lot to offer for both scuba and free divers. Depth ranges from 6m to 40m and great visibility, usually with more than 10m allows to perform interesting dives all year round. The quarry has many underwater attractions including cars, boats, mirrors, internet cafe and even a bar!

A scenic boat ride takes you out to the Aran Islands, often joined by pods of Common Dolphins! Poll na bPéist, the world-famous Red Bull diving location, is just as spectacular beneath the water as above. Head into the Wormhole itself to start off a beautiful dive, followed by swim throughs & walls down to 24m!

Trabaan Pier (★0.0)

This sheltered pier with a small south facing mouth is a working pier with boulder walls either side. Main pier is muddy bottom with a small area of substrate at the top end which is perfect for practicing skills without raising sedement. During spring tides it can reach 6/7m but on average is 3/5m.

Trá an Dóilín (Coral Beach) is one of only 2 known maerl beaches in Ireland. Depending on the tide depths range from 2m to 7m making it a perfect confined water dive site. If you visit it by night it’s a completely different dive suitable for divers with a little more experience. there is lots to see in Dóilín!

Alain Dominique Wreck (★3.3)

The Alain Dominique Wreck sits in approximately 12m-16m of water depending on tides. It sank some time in the mid 90’s. . This is a great site for an introduction to boat and wreck diving but it must be dived at slack water to avoid a strong drift. It can be easily identified at the surface as a green buoy.

Céibh an Dóilín (★4.5)

Céibh an Dóilín is a small sheltered pier just north of Trá an Doilín. This site is a great alternative for training in poor weather conditions as it is sheltered in all directions. However it does dry out at low water which must be noted. With a depth range at high tide of 5-10m this is a shallow level dive.

Grey Rock (★4.3)

A short boat ride from Annaghvaan pier, Grey rock is in an area of uncharted rocks and strong tides, so local knowledge and experience is a must navigating to this site. This site ranges from 15m to 40m with a variety of life to be seen along the wall.

Gurraig Sound (★0.0)

This is an enjoyable drift dive. Drop in at either end depending on the direction of the tide. You can drift along the stoney bottom (15-20m) at a fair old rate. If you keep into the wall (north side), you can avoid most of the current.

East of Grey Rock (★0.0)

Just east of the point 100 metres east of Grey Rock, there is a lovely area for mid range diving. Here the shore drops vertically to 27/28 metres. There?s usually lots to see at various levels on the wall.
